Skinnie Jones is Mo'Jones' brother. Indeed, the same guy from the so called band which became very known by making three great albums and doing an amazing performance at the PinkPop festival.

Born Ron van der Burgt, Skinnie is the main author of that band. He is really gifted in writing the most beautiful songs, which again he shows on this solo-EP.

Brother Mo is blessed with one of Holland's best soul voices, so Skinnie was at first a little timid to go lead-singing, but this modesty suits him.
His singing is a bit similar to the dark voice of Nick Drake, although Skinnie isn't that miserable and depressed.

When you don't get happy from listening to I Got Everything you better get ready for your own funeral. The dreamy, jazzy opener Bittersweet Tears is the first single and the title song would be the follow-up, but who cares?

All five songs on this EP are super, without a doubt.This appears to be
the first part of a total of three EP's that will finally be published as a complete album. We can't wait! 		-Muziekkrant Oor- (5 juni 2008)
Skinnie Jones is de broer van Mo'Jones,...jawel de gelijknamige groep die via drie potente albums en een spectaculair PinkPop optreden van zich deed spreken.

Ron van der Burgt, zoals zijn werkelijke naam luidt, is de compositorische motor achter die groep. En hierin is hij meesterlijk zoals nu andermaal blijkt op deze solo-EP.

Broermans Mo is gezegend met een van de beste soulstrotten van Nederland dus was Skinnie aanvankelijk een beetje beschroomd om zelf achter de zangmicrofoon plaats te nemen, maar die valse bescheidenheid siert hem. Zijn zang heeft wel iets van de door een donkerbruin timbre geschraagde stem van de betreurde Nick Drake, al is hij bij lange na niet zo'n notoire sombermans.

Degene die geen goede zin krijgt na het horen van I Got Everything is rijp voor zijn eigen begrafenis. De dromerige, jazzy opener Bittersweet Tears is de eerste single en het titelnummer zou de opvolger worden.
Who cares?

Alle vijf de nummers op deze mini-cd zijn zonder uitzondering werelds. Naar verluidt is dit het eerste deel van een drieluik dat later als volwaardig album uitgebracht zal worden. We staan te trappelen van ongeduld.

Before he was a professional musician, Skinnie was a male nurse
in an institution. He didn’t want to
be just a regular nurse: “I wanted to be a Florence Nightingale: I wanted to do my best to be good at what I
do. That is just the way that I am.” He left his job to follow his heart: he became a professional musician.
And just like before he didn’t want to be just a regular musician. “I try to be the best in what I do.”

He started writing a lot of songs for his band Mo’Jones, made three impressive albums and played almost every stage there is to play. “We have a great time, lots of fun playing like big kids.”

And yet his songs keep coming at high speed. At one time, he had so
much songs that he wanted to make his own solo-album. “Basically, I
just started to record my own songs. I started with five songs and
pressed them on a EP. I have a lot more songs that I want to record in
the near future. I want to record a total of three EP’s, with five songs each.”

My heart beats on the moon is recorded in a couple of days, with Bart Oostindie (bass, guitar, mandolin, lap-steel), Philip Kerkhofs (drums), Mike Roelofs (keyboards) and Skinnie (guitar & vocals). “I’m not really
a singer”, Skinnie says: “but still I love to sing.” In fact: you start to sing-
a-long yourself, to a song like I got everything. These songs seem to wake up the singer in everyone of us.

The fluid harmony, swift rhythm, and the musical craftsmanship and playfulness of Bart Oostindie, Philip Kerkhofs, Mike Roelofs and Skinnie make this music very bright, crisp and tickling. Once you heard these
songs you want to hear them over and over again. Try it.

Skinnie sings in a soulful, relaxed way with a brown, warm and vintage voice about the many-many things on his mind. About leaving where you don’t want to be, about staying where all is well, and everything that is in between. Songs like Bittersweet tears and My hearts beats on the moon express a kind of maturity you rarely find in popmusic today. Everyone who knows about Mo’Jones knows what kind of music we
are talking about here. This is music made to inspire, to enrich, to open
up and bring you in an excellent trance. Skinnie knows how to do just
that and boy has he done it again on My heart beats on the moon.

Voordat hij een professioneel muzikant werd, werkte Skinnie als verpleger in een inrichting. Hij wilde niet zo maar een verpleger zijn. “Ik wilde Florence Nightingale zijn: mijn best doen om goed te zijn in wat ik doe. Zo ben ik nu eenmaal.” Hij stopte met werken om zijn hart te volgen: hij werd een professioneel muzikant. En net als voorheen wilde hij niet zomaar iets zijn. “Ik probeer om zo goed mogelijk te zijn in wat ik doe.”

Hij begon heel veel nummers te schrijven voor Mo’Jones, maakte drie indrukwekkende cd’s en speelde op welhaast elk podium waar je maar kunt spelen. “We hebben een fantastische tijd, heel veel lol en we spelen als grote kinderen.”

Nog steeds stromen nieuwe liedjes in hoog tempo uit zijn pen. Zoveel liedjes, dat hij gewoon zijn eigen soloplaat ging maken. “Ik ben mijn eigen liedjes op gaan nemen. Ik begon met vijf liedjes en heb die op een EPtje gezet. Ik heb inmiddels al weer heel veel nieuwe songs die ik in de nabije toekomst wil opnemen. Het liefst wil ik in totaal drie EP’s opnemen, met ieder vijf nummers.”

My heart beats on the moon is in een paar dagen tijd opgenomen, met Bart Oostindie (bas, gitaar, mandoline, lap-steel), Philip Kerkhofs (drums) Mike Roelofs (keyboard) en Skinnie (gitaar & zang). “Ik ben geen echte zanger”, zegt Skinnie: “Maar ik vind het heerlijk om te zingen.” Sterker nog: bij beluistering begin je zelf al gauw mee te zingen met I got everything. Liedjes die appelleren aan de zanger in ieder van ons.

De vloeiende harmonie, het soepele ritme, het muzikale vakmanschap en de speelsheid van Bart Oostindie, Philip Kerkhofs, Mike Roelofs en Skinnie maken deze muziek helder, kraakvers en prikkelend. Als je deze liedjes gehoord hebt, wil je blijven beluisteren. Probeer maar.

Skinnie zingt soulachtig, relaxed met een bruine, warme en doorleefde stem over vele-vele dingen. Over vertrekken waar je niet wil zijn, over willen zijn waar alles goed is, en alles wat daartussen zit. Songs als Bittersweet tears en My heart beats on the moon stralen een aangename volwassenheid uit, die je nog maar zelden hoort in de popmuziek. Iedereen die weet wat Mo’Jones is, weet over wat voor soort muziek we het hier hebben. Deze muziek wil inspireren, verrijken, verruimen om de luisteraar in een briljante trance te brengen. Skinnie weet hoe dat moet, en hij heeft het weer gedaan op My heart beats on the moon.
